Experts and Moore's lawyer think jail time is unlikely for the ex-coach, who took a plea tied to entering the home of a woman with whom he had an affair.

Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is scheduled for sentencing this afternoon, bringing a difficult chapter closer to its legal conclusion. Moore faces sentencing on misdemeanor charges after reaching a plea agreement in March, with experts and his own attorney indicating that additional jail time is unlikely.

The charges stem from a December 2025 incident at the apartment of Paige Shiver, a former university employee with whom Moore had a two-year affair. Following his firing by the University of Michigan for the inappropriate relationship, Moore went to Shiver's residence. According to police and prosecutors, he entered the apartment, picked up butter knives, and backed her into a corner while making threats of self-harm before leaving.

Originally charged with felony home invasion and misdemeanor stalking, Moore's legal team maintained his innocence. The case was resolved with a plea deal to lesser charges: one count of trespass and one count of malicious use of a telecommunications device. While jail time remains a legal possibility, legal observers anticipate a sentence of probation when Judge J. Cedric Simpson delivers his ruling.

This situation serves as a stark reminder of how personal conduct off the field can abruptly alter a coaching career. Moore, once a prominent figure in a storied football program, now faces the consequences of actions that extend far beyond the sidelines.
