Shedeur Sanders may have walked the stage at Colorado's graduation ceremony, but the "Grown" quarterback is still waiting on his diploma.

Two weeks ago, the son of Deion Sanders made headlines for earning his degree from the University of Colorado. However, a closer look by USA TODAY Sports reveals that Sanders hasn't actually graduated yet. He simply participated in the ceremony—a common practice for Colorado students who are on track to graduate but still need to finish coursework.

The University of Colorado's official social media accounts had celebrated Sanders' return to campus for the ceremony, but those posts now feel premature. Colorado athletics quickly issued a statement clarifying the situation.

"We are thrilled that Shedeur Sanders came back to Boulder to celebrate commencement with his fellow students," said CU athletics spokesman Steve Hurlbert. "Shedeur completed the requisite number of credits to participate in the spring commencement ceremony on May 2, which is an opportunity available to all CU students who similarly qualify. This is extremely common, not just for student-athletes but for many students who want to be a part of the spring commencement ceremony but who might be finishing their course load in the summer or even following fall."

This news comes after an eventful year for Sanders. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, where he turned heads as a rookie. Despite a rocky start—1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 11 interceptions—he earned a Pro Bowl nod. His 18.9 QBR was the lowest among starters in the postseason event, but the experience has only fueled his drive.

There's no official timeline for when Sanders will complete his degree requirements, but his academic record is impressive. He carries a 3.9 GPA, just shy of the perfect 4.0 maintained by Travis Hunter, who graduated over a year ago.

For now, Sanders' focus remains on the gridiron, but that diploma is clearly within reach.
