Gavin Grahovac added a home run and three RBIs, and Wesley Jordan turned in his most complete performance as an Aggie, finishing with four RBIs and a three-run homer. On the mound, Juan Vargas set the tone early with three strikeouts, and head coach Michael Earley might have found a new go-to arm in Hunter Bond. The junior from College Station retired all 10 batters he faced, fanning four along the way.
The win wrapped up a dominant non-conference slate for the Maroon and White, who finished 21-2 with their only losses coming on the road to No. 1 UCLA and Texas State.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the Aggies are making some adjustments. Star freshman Nico Partida will miss at least Friday's game as he continues to nurse a hamstring strain. Coach Earley is also shaking up the rotation. Senior left-hander Ethan Darden will get the ball in Friday's opener, replacing Shane Sdao. Justin Sims will start game two, while the finale remains a "to-be-announced" affair, with Weston Moss, Sdao, and Gavin Lyons all in the mix. Darden, who boasts a 2.88 ERA across 20 appearances this season, will be making his first start as an Aggie, and don't be surprised if Sdao sees action out of the bullpen behind him.
