All eyes are on the Stadio San Siro this weekend as AC Milan and Atalanta face off in a Serie A clash that could define both clubs’ seasons. For Milan, it’s a true “make or break” moment—their top-four hopes are hanging by a thread after a string of disappointing results. Meanwhile, Atalanta arrive in Turin struggling for form, desperate to keep their European dreams alive.

Milan’s recent slide has been alarming. A 2-0 defeat at Sassuolo last weekend was their third loss in five league matches, with Fikayo Tomori’s early red card leaving the Rossoneri exposed. That result allowed Juventus to leapfrog them in the standings after a narrow win over Lecce, adding to the pressure on coach Massimiliano Allegri. With Roma also breathing down their necks after a potential victory at Parma, Milan can no longer afford any slip-ups.

Despite the setbacks, Milan still hold a three-point cushion over fifth-placed Roma, meaning their Champions League fate remains in their own hands. But the team’s confidence is fragile. Allegri called an emergency team meeting this week, hoping to address a worrying trend: Milan have lost as many games in their last five Serie A outings (three) as they did in the entire rest of the season combined. It’s a slump that threatens to undo months of hard work.

Atalanta, on the other hand, are running out of time. Raffaele Palladino’s side played out a frustrating 0-0 draw with Genoa last time out, extending a run of underwhelming results that has left them on the verge of missing European football for the first time since the 2022/23 season. Their hopes of an alternate route via the Coppa Italia were dashed by Lazio in the semi-finals, leaving the league as their only path. With a seven-point gap to sixth-placed Como before this round, anything less than a win at San Siro would likely end their European ambitions for good.

History doesn’t favor Milan heading into this showdown. The Rossoneri are winless in their last five Serie A meetings with Atalanta, including a 1-1 draw in October’s reverse fixture. That streak adds an extra layer of tension to a match that already feels like a season-defining moment for both clubs. For Milan, it’s about proving they can handle the pressure. For Atalanta, it’s about fighting for survival. One thing is certain: San Siro will be buzzing with drama.
