The Serie A calendar has descended into chaos this weekend as the Lega Serie A has filed an emergency appeal to reschedule five crucial matches, including the highly anticipated Rome Derby between Lazio and Roma. The league is pushing to move these fixtures from Monday evening to Sunday morning after their initial proposal was rejected by local authorities.

The situation leaves 10 teams in limbo, unsure of when or at what time they'll take the pitch for Week 37. With the race for Champions League qualification tighter than ever, matches involving Roma, Milan, Juventus, Napoli, and Como must all kick off simultaneously to preserve competitive integrity. This scheduling conflict has turned the final stretch of the season into a logistical nightmare.

At the heart of the issue is the Rome Derby, a fixture already fraught with tension due to the fierce rivalry between the two sets of fans. The added complication? The Italian Open men's singles tennis final is scheduled at the Foro Italico, which shares the same complex as the Stadio Olimpico. Public safety concerns have forced authorities to tread carefully.

The Lega Serie A originally proposed a Sunday morning kickoff at 11:30 UK time (12:30 CEST), but local authorities deemed that too close to the tennis tournament, citing safety risks. Instead, the Prefect ordered the derby to be moved to Monday at 19:45 UK time (20:45 CEST), forcing the other four matches to follow suit.

In a bid to resolve the deadlock, the league suggested an alternative: a Sunday kickoff at 11:00 UK time (12:00 CEST) with the Italian Open pushed back to 17:30 UK time (18:30 CEST). However, Rome's local authorities swiftly rejected this as unworkable.

Now, the Lega Serie A has escalated the matter by lodging a formal appeal with the TAR tribunal, hoping for a decision by tomorrow. For fans and teams alike, the clock is ticking, and the uncertainty adds another layer of drama to an already electrifying Serie A season.
