Serie A's scheduling chaos is far from over, as a potential delay in the appeal process could leave five crucial matches in limbo for even longer. Lega Serie A President Ezio Simonelli has confirmed a proposal to hold the affected games—including the highly anticipated Roma-Lazio derby—on Sunday at 11:00 UK (12:00 CEST). However, without a formal appeal yet lodged, a final resolution remains uncertain.
The five fixtures in question are Roma vs Lazio, Juventus vs Fiorentina, Genoa vs Milan, Como vs Parma, and Pisa vs Napoli. These matches must be played simultaneously to maintain fairness in the race for Champions League qualification. But public safety concerns have thrown a wrench into the plans. Local authorities moved the Rome Derby from its original Sunday 11:30 UK (12:30 CEST) slot to Monday 19:45 UK (20:45 CEST) due to a clash with the Italian Open tennis tournament's men's final, scheduled for 14:00 UK (15:00 CEST) at the nearby Foro Italico complex.
"We recognize the decision of the Prefect, but we do not share it," Simonelli stated after a club meeting. "We made a proposal to the Interior Minister, hoping to find a solution, which is to bring all five games forward to 12:00 CEST."
Under this plan, the Italian Open final would be delayed to 16:30 UK (17:30 CEST). However, the Lega Serie A has only threatened to appeal to the TAR tribunal—not yet filed one. "We hope to receive a response to our proposal by this evening. If we don't, then we will have to present an appeal," Simonelli added.
This hesitation means any tribunal decision could take an additional 24 hours, prolonging the uncertainty for fans, teams, and broadcasters alike. As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: the fight for Champions League spots will be decided under a cloud of confusion, with every kick-off time a potential game-changer.
