In a dramatic clash of sporting calendars, the President of the Italian Tennis Association has launched a blistering attack on Serie A's scheduling chaos for Week 37—calling out the league's fixture list as something "some idiot typed up with his feet."

The tension comes as five Serie A matches, originally set for Sunday at 11:30 UK time (12:30 CEST), were ordered by local authorities to be moved to Monday at 19:45 UK (20:45 CEST). The affected games include some of the season's biggest clashes: Roma vs. Lazio, Como vs. Parma, Genoa vs. Milan, Juventus vs. Fiorentina, and Pisa vs. Napoli.

Adding to the confusion, the Lega Serie A's emergency appeal to the TAR tribunal was sent back to local authorities, who have now called a summit to find a common solution. If they fail to agree, the TAR will make a ruling on Friday—less than 48 hours before the matches are due to kick off.

The real flashpoint, however, involves the Rome Derby. Serie A had proposed moving back the start of the Italian Open men's singles final to accommodate the derby, but the tennis federation refused outright. Federtennis President Angelo Binaghi didn't mince words: "The supervisor of the ATP tour is here, and this tournament is organised differently to a football competition. They can change whenever they like; we cannot. And we cannot be expected to move our final just because some idiot typed up the fixture list with his feet."

While the scheduling conflict was perhaps predictable—pitting the Rome Derby against the prestigious Italian Open was always going to create friction—the situation has now spiraled into farce.
