The second-round softball playoffs came down to the last pitch for Baker County. Here's what happened, plus more from FHSAA second-round games.

Jacksonville's high school softball scene delivered pure playoff drama this week, and no game was more thrilling than Baker County's walk-off victory in the FHSAA Region 1-4A semifinals.

The Wildcats' last home game of the spring turned into an instant classic. With the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Mallory Jackson stepped to the plate and delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring ghost runner Sadye Harvey and securing a 6-5 win over Fort Walton Beach on May 13.

Jackson was the star of the show, going 3-for-4 on the day. But the Wildcats (24-2) had to fight from behind to make it happen. After falling into an early hole, Baker County exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Baleigh Shields.

Fort Walton Beach (15-13) refused to go quietly, though. Anna Beyhl's home run in the sixth inning tied the game and sent it to extras, setting the stage for Jackson's heroics.

Elsewhere in the region, top-seeded Columbia made a statement of its own. The Tigers (26-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to an 11-1 mercy-rule victory over Panama City Beach Arnold in five innings.

Josie Raulerson led the offensive charge for Columbia, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Arnold (17-11) briefly took a 1-0 lead on Caydence Corbitt's RBI double in the first, but the Tigers' pitching duo of Ryleigh Stone and Kinley King shut the door from there, holding the Marlins to just five hits.

With the second round in the books, these teams are proving that every pitch matters in the chase for a state championship. Whether it's a walk-off thriller or a dominant run-rule win, Jacksonville's softball squads are leaving it all on the field.
