Spring has arrived in Western New York, and with it comes the thunder of sticks, the roar of the crowd, and the start of another thrilling Section V boys lacrosse season. Lacrosse has deep roots in the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions, long celebrated as a true hotbed of talent and tradition in New York state. From the first face-off of the regular season to the pressure-packed sectional and state tournaments, we're on the sidelines capturing every unforgettable moment.
This year promises no shortage of action: highlight-reel goals, jaw-dropping saves, and the crunching collisions that define the sport at its best. We've already been out in full force, documenting the intensity and passion that makes Section V lacrosse so special.
One early highlight? A clash between two powerhouse programs—Penn Yan and Honeoye Falls-Lima—that had fans on their feet. Penn Yan's Braden Fingar ripped a shot on goal, while Greyson Hathway battled for a gritty ground ball. Keagan Christensen controlled possession with poise, and goalie Wilson Oliva came up with a clutch save to keep the momentum on Penn Yan's side. On the other side, Honeoye Falls-Lima's Grady Goodberlet showed his two-way skills, disrupting passes and fighting through contact, while Sam Jokl threaded a sharp pass through traffic. Even a shot that clanged off the crossbar above HF-L goalie Jason Bennett had the crowd gasping.
Off the field, Penn Yan coach Brian Hobart delivered a spirited halftime talk that clearly lit a fire under his squad. The chemistry and celebration between players like Jaxon Jensen and Wilson Oliva after big plays reminded us why we love this game—it's about teamwork, heart, and the pursuit of greatness.
