The roar of the oars is set to echo once again across East Tennessee as the SEC Rowing Championship returns to Oak Ridge's Melton Hill Lake for its second consecutive year. Scheduled for Sunday, May 10, this premier collegiate event promises high-stakes competition and a celebration of the sport's finest talent.

Four powerhouse universities—Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas—will battle it out on the water, bringing approximately 200 elite collegiate athletes to the region. The event, hosted in partnership with the Oak Ridge Rowing Association (ORRA), builds on the success of last year's inaugural championship, which left a lasting impression on athletes, coaches, and fans alike.

"The success of last year's inaugural SEC Rowing Championship in Oak Ridge made the decision to return an easy one," said Tiffany Daniels, SEC associate commissioner. "From the quality of competition on Melton Hill Lake to the exceptional partnership with the Oak Ridge Rowing Association and the strong local support, the event exceeded expectations in every way. We are excited to build on that momentum and once again showcase the very best of SEC rowing."

Melton Hill Lake is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier rowing venues, offering a straight, protected course with consistently fair racing conditions. With over 30 miles of water and fully buoyed seven-lane racecourses for both 1,000 and 2,000-meter events, this Tennessee Valley Authority-managed lake has hosted numerous national and regional championships—and now adds another chapter to its storied history.

The championship action kicks off at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, and will be streamed live on SEC Network+ via the ESPN app. For those who prefer a traditional broadcast, a replay airs on SEC Network on May 11 at 7 p.m.

"We are proud to welcome the Southeastern Conference back to Oak Ridge for the 2026 SEC Rowing Championship," said Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch. "Melton Hill Lake continues to prove itself as a premier venue for championship rowing, showcasing not only world-class competition but also the strength of our community and the dedication of our partners, including the Oak Ridge Rowing Association."

Jim Rogers, chair of the ORRA Regatta Committee, echoed the sentiment: "ORRA appreciates the trust that the SEC has again placed in us for their 2026 Rowing Championship. We'll leverage the enviable water conditions of Melton Hill Lake and our decades of experience hosting elite rowing events to deliver a meaningful championship experience for these athletes."

For fans of the sport and supporters of SEC athletics, this weekend offers a unique opportunity to witness the power, precision, and teamwork that define championship rowing—all set against the scenic backdrop of one of the country's best aquatic arenas. Whether you're cheering from the shoreline or watching from home, the 2026 SEC Rowing Championship is a must-see event for any sports enthusiast.
