The Florida State Seminoles are facing a critical battle on the recruiting trail. Their highest-rated commit in the 2027 class, four-star safety Mekhi Williams, is reportedly leaning toward flipping his commitment to the LSU Tigers.

Williams, who has been pledged to FSU for over a year, recently admitted he's "keeping his options open." That openness has caught the attention of several powerhouse programs, including Wisconsin, Nebraska, and LSU. While he's scheduled official visits to all three—plus a June 5 trip to Tallahassee—it's LSU that's generating the most buzz.

Shea Dixon, an LSU recruiting insider for On3, has logged a prediction that Williams will ultimately flip to the Tigers. It's the only crystal ball prediction on the board for Williams, signaling a strong shift in momentum toward Baton Rouge.

Losing Williams would be a significant blow to FSU's 2027 class. As the No. 178 overall player in the Rivals industry rankings, he's not just the Seminoles' highest-rated commit—he's far ahead of the pack. The next-highest FSU pledge, Gregory Batson, checks in at No. 334. Williams also holds the distinction of being FSU's longest-tenured commit, having been recruited by the staff longer than anyone else in the country.

FSU was the first school to offer Williams a scholarship back in January 2025, and the Seminoles have hosted him on numerous visits since. In contrast, LSU didn't extend an offer until May 4, 2026, and Williams has never stepped foot on LSU's campus. Yet, the Tigers' late push appears to be gaining serious traction.

For FSU, holding onto Williams is about more than just a single recruit—it's about maintaining credibility on the trail and proving they can fend off SEC heavyweights. All eyes will be on Williams' official visit schedule this summer, especially his June 19 trip to LSU.
