Sean Strickland didn't waste a second after his stunning UFC 328 victory to remind streamer Adin Ross about a $50,000 bet—proving that in combat sports, the action doesn't stop when the final bell rings.
On Saturday night, Strickland pulled off one of the year's biggest upsets by reclaiming the UFC middleweight title in a hard-fought battle against Khamzat Chimaev. With this win, he became just the second fighter in division history to hold the belt twice, cementing his legacy as a true warrior who thrives when the odds are stacked against him.
Both of Strickland's championship runs have come as an underdog, reinforcing his reputation as the fighter who can never be counted out. But not everyone saw it coming—least of all Arman Tsarukyan, Chimaev's teammate, who was so confident in his friend's chances that he placed a massive $50,000 bet with popular streamer Adin Ross.
Just before the fight, Tsarukyan even mentioned the wager to Strickland during a surprise phone call while Ross was live streaming. Despite Strickland's usual skepticism of internet personalities, Ross put his faith—and his money—on the champion, betting $50,000 that Strickland would emerge victorious.
When the split decision was announced in Strickland's favor, Ross walked away $50,000 richer. But the real drama came afterward. According to Ross, Strickland texted him immediately after the win with a simple message: "Yo, he texted me… The first thing he thinks of is 'Ha ha, is Arman gonna pay up his bet?'"
Tsarukyan wasn't far behind in reaching out. Ross shared that the Armenian fighter texted him the night of the fight, and when Ross replied with " -$50,000," Tsarukyan shot back: "Sure, did you buy a referee? It wasn't rigged. Sean beat him 3-2."
The scorecards were certainly a topic of debate—out of 24 media members polled by MMA Decisions, 13 felt Chimaev had done enough to keep his title. But in the cage, the only score that matters is the one read by the announcer, and this time, it was Strickland's name called.
From the octagon to the bank account, this victory was sweet on every level for the new champion—and a costly lesson for anyone who bets against him.
