Nassourdine Imavov believes he’s earned his place at the front of the line for a shot at the UFC middleweight belt. Sean Strickland isn’t just remembered for one of MMA’s biggest upsets anymore – after UFC 328, he now has two under his belt.

Sean Strickland has done the unthinkable—twice. After shocking the MMA world by dethroning Israel Adesanya in September 2023, the American followed it up with another stunning upset at UFC 328, defeating Khamzat Chimaev to become a two-time middleweight champion. Now, all eyes are on his next challenge, and it looks like Nassourdine Imavov is finally getting his shot.

Imavov has been knocking on the door for months. With five straight wins, including back-to-back main event victories over Adesanya and Caio Borralho, the French contender believes he's earned his place at the front of the line. And after UFC 328, that belief is becoming reality.

While Chimaev is eyeing a move to light heavyweight, ruling out an immediate rematch, the promotion has made its decision. Imavov confirmed in a backstage interview with RMC Sport that the UFC turned down his request for a title eliminator against Dricus du Plessis, instead offering him a direct shot at the belt.

"I asked to fight Dricus Du Plessis but the UFC refused," Imavov said. "They want to offer me a fight solely for the belt."

If that fight materializes, it won't be their first meeting. Imavov and Strickland previously squared off in January 2023 at UFC Vegas 67, where Strickland stepped in on late notice. The champion himself backed Imavov's case during Paramount's post-fight show, saying, "(Imavov) is next. I'll take a little breather, support my boy Alex (Pereira) at the White House. Give me a little time, let my broken nose heal and let's go."

For Strickland, this is a chance to cement his legacy. For Imavov, it's the opportunity he's been waiting for. The middleweight division is heating up, and this showdown promises to be a must-watch for any fight fan.
