Sean Strickland has opened up about the extent of the injury he was carrying just days before his stunning world title win on Saturday. Even with a strong resume, which includes a stint as champion and victories over most of the top 10, few expected Strickland to be the one to hand Khamzat Chimaev his first defeat.

Sean Strickland shocked the MMA world at UFC 328, not just by handing Khamzat Chimaev his first career loss, but by doing so while fighting through a serious injury that would have sidelined most athletes.

Few gave Strickland a chance against the undefeated Chimaev, despite his own impressive resume as a former champion with wins over most of the top 10. Yet, in a split decision that many scored 3-2 in his favor, Strickland pulled off one of the most memorable upsets in recent division history.

What made the victory even more remarkable was the injury Strickland carried into the Octagon. Just days before the fight, during a sparring session with PFL standout Johnny Eblen, he suffered a significant shoulder injury. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan noticed something was off from his cageside position, later describing Strickland as looking "compromised" before the bout even started.

After the fight, Strickland took to social media to reveal the full extent of his condition, describing it as a combination of three separate issues: a Type 2 AC separation, an extended Type V SLAP tear, and partial rotator cuff tearing with tendinosis. With characteristic humor, he added he was "gonna have to walk this one off."

On his podcast, Rogan elaborated on what he observed, telling Brendan Schaub that he noticed Strickland testing his range of motion at the start of the fight. "Sean had one arm," Rogan said, demonstrating the limited movement he saw. "He was only going to here—about halfway up the average range of movement."

For fans and fighters alike, Strickland's gritty performance serves as a powerful reminder that heart and determination can overcome even the most daunting physical obstacles. It's the kind of story that inspires athletes to push through their own training setbacks, knowing that sometimes the greatest victories come from the toughest circumstances.
