"He’s very good at what he does," Broncos coach Sean Payton said of GM George Paton. "I think we complement each other."

Sean Payton couldn't hide his excitement when discussing George Paton's new contract extension with the Denver Broncos. Just before rookie minicamp kicked off last week, the team locked in their general manager with a five-year deal that keeps him in Denver through the 2030 NFL season.

It's been three seasons since Payton and Paton joined forces to reshape the Broncos' roster, and the chemistry between them is paying off in a big way. After Saturday's practice, Payton opened up about what it means to have that kind of partnership.

"In our league, it's almost half the battle to have continuity," Payton said. "I told him the other day, 'Man, I consider myself very fortunate.' In New Orleans, I had one general manager who became a close friend and a great working partner. Then to find another person like George? We love the grind together. He's a tremendous asset, very good at what he does. I think we complement each other. I was super excited for him—I told you guys at the combine it was just a matter of time. We think alike in a lot of cases."

That alignment is showing on the field. With Paton building the roster and Payton coaching it up, the Broncos have transformed into legitimate Super Bowl contenders. After making a run to the AFC title game in 2025, the team is setting its sights even higher for 2026.

For fans of the orange and blue, this extension signals stability at the top—a key ingredient for sustained success in today's NFL. And with a head coach who appreciates his GM as much as Payton appreciates Paton, Denver's future looks brighter than ever.
