Sean O'Malley is known for his colorful personality and even more colorful fight gear, but the former UFC bantamweight champion isn't feeling the new threads for UFC Freedom 250.
The event, set for June 14 at the White House, will feature O'Malley (19-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) taking on Aiemann Zahabi (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in a bantamweight showdown. But before the first punch is thrown, O'Malley has some thoughts on the fight kits unveiled earlier this week—and he's not holding back.
"I don't know if I'm even supposed to say, but they're ugly," O'Malley said on his YouTube channel. "Mine were ugly. I don't like them."
The fighter, who typically steps into the Octagon sporting pink shorts, was particularly unimpressed with the design. "Did they go on Fiverr and say, 'Hey, you know, we've got these guys getting into a fight on the White House Lawn, can you just come up with something?'" he joked. "I didn't love them."
However, O'Malley did find a silver lining in the white shorts he'll be wearing. "I like the white because I do truly believe I'm going to crack Aiemann," he said. "I'm going to bloody his nose. I think I'm going to hit him a lot. I think he's going to be very tough. I think he's going to be very durable. I think I'm going to beat the f*ck out of him."
Comparing the potential bout to his memorable war with Kris Moutinho, O'Malley added, "I'm also a lot better than I was back then. So I believe I'm going to finish him, but I'm excited for my white shorts to be red. Like, I want to see how red I can get my white shorts from his blood. That is kind of cool. But overall, I didn't f*cking love them."
For fans who want to rep their favorite fighters in style, it's a reminder that the right gear can make all the difference—whether you're stepping into the cage or just cheering from home. O'Malley may not be a fan of the official kits, but there's always a way to find gear that matches your own fighting spirit.
