The Seattle Seahawks are known for fielding tall cornerbacks, but they might have just found their tallest yet—and in the most unexpected way.
Former Arkansas wide receiver Tyrone Broden Jr., who joined Seattle as an undrafted free agent last year, has made a surprising switch from offense to defense. The team announced Thursday that Broden is now officially listed as a cornerback and will wear jersey No. 31. After spending the 2025 season on the practice squad, he was signed to a reserve/futures contract shortly after the Seahawks' Super Bowl victory.
What makes this move so intriguing? Broden stands just over 6'5" and weighs under 200 pounds, with a reported 4.37-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. To put that height in perspective, he's taller than Seahawks legends like Richard Sherman (6'3"), Riq Woolen (6'4"), and Brandon Browner (6'4"). Some reports, including from Broden himself, even have him at 6'7".
Here's the catch: Broden has zero experience playing cornerback—not in college and reportedly not even in high school. At wide receiver, his path to the active roster was blocked by a deep and talented group, making this position change a creative gamble. While it's far from a sure thing, the move adds an exciting layer of intrigue heading into training camp. Fans will undoubtedly want to see if this 6'5" speedster can translate his athleticism to the defensive side of the ball.
