One more giant need filled by the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks have finally made some noise this offseason, signing veteran edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. After an unusually quiet stretch, the team has addressed one of its biggest remaining needs by adding a proven pass rusher to the defensive line.

Fowler, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 draft, brings 12 seasons of NFL experience to Seattle. He'll line up opposite DeMarcus Lawrence, forming a formidable duo that promises to make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks. The signing comes just after the compensatory pick deadline, meaning it won't affect the team's draft pick formula—only the roster and salary cap.

This move has been brewing for a while, and several factors made it feel inevitable. Seattle entered and left the 2026 draft without adding any edge help, signaling they were targeting a veteran. Fowler also has strong connections to the organization: he played alongside Lawrence in Dallas and worked with Seahawks defensive coach Aden Durde in 2022 and 2023. The team even brought him in for a visit recently. And if there's one thing head coach Mike Macdonald has shown, it's a knack for reviving 30-year-old pass rushers.

While Fowler isn't quite on Lawrence's level—the $5 million price tag reflects that—he's a perfect fit for what the Seahawks are building on defense. Known for his high motor and disruptive playstyle, Fowler is a power rusher who generates consistent pressure. In fact, his pressure rate in 2025 was higher than any current Seahawks player.

Fowler isn't a direct replacement for Boye Mafe in terms of skillset. He's more in the mold of Derick Hall, Lawrence, or even Leonard Williams—a physical, relentless force off the edge. His career production has been inconsistent, with only two 10-plus sack seasons, but his 15 forced fumbles and 74 tackles for loss over a decade speak to his impact. His best years came with the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders, so it's fair to assume that Durde and Macdonald can unlock that same potential in Seattle.
