When Seattle Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall steps onto the field, he carries more than just a playbook. He carries a story of survival that began with a one percent chance at life.

Born at just 28 weeks in 2001, Hall weighed a mere 1.5 pounds at birth. His mother, Stacy Gooden-Crandle, still vividly recalls the terrifying moment when doctors told her to prepare for the worst. "He was born dead," she shares. "He had to be resuscitated, put on life support, and it was really touch-and-go for a long time. They said he only had a one percent chance at survival for the first two weeks."

But even then, Hall was already showing the fighting spirit that would one day make him a Super Bowl champion. His mother describes him as a "little fighter" who refused to give up. "We celebrated when he got off life support. We celebrated when they took out the feeding tube. We celebrated every single victory," she recalls. "He just had this innate ability to fight."

Gooden-Crandle admits she never wanted her son to play football. "I was nervous," she says, "but I'm a faith-based woman, and I felt like if God brought me to it, he could bring me through it." Ultimately, she chose to support his dreams, watching him grow from a fragile preemie into a powerhouse linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, Hall and his mother are teaming up with Huggies' "Natural Born Fighters" campaign, which honors the tiniest babies who spend their first weeks or months in the NICU. "I don't think a lot of people know what it takes to be the parent of a little fighter," Gooden-Crandle says. "The love and the care they need is incredible."

From a one percent chance of survival to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Derick Hall's journey is a powerful reminder that sometimes, the biggest champions start out as the smallest fighters.
