San Diego FC walked away from Lumen Field on Saturday night with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders—a result that, while not a win, showed signs of fight in a team that hasn't tasted league victory in over two months.
The draw extends SDFC's winless run to nine MLS matches, a frustrating stretch that began after their last win on March 7—a 1-0 home victory over Sporting Kansas City. Despite the drought, the Chrome & Azul have shown resilience, following up last week's 2-2 thriller against So-Cal rivals LAFC at Snapdragon Stadium with a gritty performance on the road.
Saturday's match carried extra weight for San Diego, as they faced a Seattle side that had been unbeaten in 20 straight matches at Lumen Field. The Sounders also held the edge in the all-time series, having beaten SDFC 1-0 in their first-ever visit to the stadium back in May 2025.
But it was San Diego who struck first. In the 18th minute, midfielder Onni Valakari slipped a clever pass from outside the box to forward Marcus Ingvartsen, who needed just one touch to set up his right-footed shot. The ball curled past Sounders goalkeeper Andrew Thomas and nestled into the left side of the net, giving SDFC a 1-0 lead.
Ingvartsen continues to be the bright spot in San Diego's attack. The red-hot forward now has eight MLS goals this season, making him the club's top scorer in 2026. He nearly had company on the scoresheet just four minutes later, when teammate Amahl Pellegrino's guided header was denied by a last-second save from Thomas.
The Sounders thought they had equalized in the 31st minute when Jordan Morris found the net, but the linesman's flag went up immediately. VAR confirmed Morris was offside, and the goal was wiped away, keeping SDFC ahead.
The match's defining moments came in the final 20 minutes. Seattle pushed hard for an equalizer, and their persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when they finally broke through San Diego's defense to level the score at 1-1. Both sides had chances to snatch a winner in the closing stages, but neither could find the decisive goal.
For San Diego FC, the draw is another step forward in a season that's been defined by near-misses and growing pains. While the winless streak continues, the team's ability to compete on the road against one of the league's toughest opponents suggests better days may be ahead. The Chrome & Azul will look to finally snap that streak when they return to action next week.
