The home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers has a fresh new look and a fresh new name. 717 Credit Union Field at Eastwood officially debuted Friday night, christening its brand-new turf surface with a slate of local high school baseball action.

The historic evening saw United, Lisbon, Crestview, and Columbiana take the field, with United claiming a 10-0 victory over Lisbon in the inaugural game on the pristine surface. The win improved United's record to 8-2, while Lisbon moved to 4-5.

Coaches were quick to praise the facility. "They did an amazing job on it. We’re just happy to be here, the turf is beautiful," said United head coach Tim Hydrick. Lisbon's Doug Andric echoed the sentiment, calling it "a privilege for any high school kid to play on a field like this."

This major upgrade marks a new era for the stadium, replacing the original grass surface that had served the community for 27 years. The state-of-the-art turf now covers the entire infield and outfield, promising consistent playability and a modern game-day experience.

The professional tenants are eager for their turn. The Scrappers will host their first game on the new field on June 2nd against State College. Before that, Youngstown Baseball will get its first taste of the turf when they face Toledo on April 22nd. The stage is set for an exciting season of baseball in Niles.
