Scottie Scheffler couldn't hide his amazement after watching Cam Young dominate the Cadillac Championship on Sunday. The world number one posted a solid final round of 68, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep pace with Young, who ran away with the trophy at Trump National Doral.
It's been a strange year for Scheffler in 2026. By any normal standard, his season would be considered phenomenal—one win, three runner-up finishes, and six top-fives. But for a player of his caliber, those numbers feel like a letdown. This week, Scheffler admitted he was playing with what he called his "C" game, and it showed.
Cam Young, on the other hand, has been on fire. The rising star has emerged as Scheffler's biggest challenger, and some are starting to wonder if Young might actually be the better player right now. Even Scheffler himself is willing to concede that much.
Speaking to reporters after securing his third consecutive runner-up finish on the PGA Tour, Scheffler was candid about Young's performance. "Cam played fantastic golf all week," he said. "I played with him three out of the four days, and he was hitting quality shots from everywhere. He was draining putts from any distance. He was going to be a tough man to beat."
Scheffler has known Young for years and has always respected his game, but this week was something else entirely. "Every time I've played with him, I've been impressed. But this week was different. He hit so many quality iron shots and tee shots, especially on the holes where it really matters. There are some really difficult tee shots out here, and he stepped up and nailed them every time."
The turning point came early. "The first 27 holes, I don't think he missed anything," Scheffler said with a shake of his head. "It was nuts. The guy was just unstoppable."
For golf fans, this rivalry is heating up at just the right time. If Young keeps playing like this, the battle for the top spot on the PGA Tour is going to be one for the ages.
