Friday night in Rhode Island high school sports delivered a slate of unforgettable performances, headlined by a softball game that rewrote the record books. If you love explosive offense, the clash between Davies and Central Falls/BVP was an absolute spectacle.
In a game that felt more like a video game, the two teams combined for a staggering 73 runs over just four innings. Davies emerged victorious in this offensive onslaught, pounding out 24 hits. The standout performance came from Davies' Darelyn Maldonado, who put on a hitting clinic by going a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate, driving in 10 runs, and scoring six times herself. Teammate Kylie Robert added a home run in the Patriots' win.
While Central Falls/BVP fell short, they contributed to the fireworks with a home run from Sidney Pelletier. The game set a wild tone from the start, with Central Falls posting six runs in the top of the first, only for Davies to answer with a 13-run explosion in the bottom half.
Shifting from offensive fireworks to a pitching masterpiece, Chariho's Adriana Jeannenot authored a dominant performance against Smithfield. The Chargers' starter was virtually untouchable, tossing seven shutout innings, striking out 15 batters, and allowing just one hit. She received plenty of support from her offense, led by Emily Popowich, who launched two home runs and drove in four runs to power Chariho to a commanding victory.
These games underscore the incredible talent and competitive spirit across Rhode Island's high school diamonds. From historic offensive outputs to lights-out pitching, Friday night had it all for local sports fans.
