World number one Scottie Scheffler confirms he will warm up for his defence of the Open title by playing the Scottish Open next month.

The countdown to The Open Championship just got a whole lot more exciting. World number one Scottie Scheffler has officially confirmed he will tee it up at the Genesis Scottish Open next month, using the links test at The Renaissance Club as his final tune-up before defending the Claret Jug.

Scheduled for July 9-12 in East Lothian, this year's Scottish Open is shaping up to be a blockbuster event. Scheffler will be joined by fellow two-time Masters champion and world number two Rory McIlroy, home favorite Robert MacIntyre fresh off his 2024 victory, and defending champion Chris Gotterup. It's the kind of field that makes this tournament a must-watch—and a perfect preview for the major drama at Royal Birkdale the following week.

For the 29-year-old Scheffler, this marks his fifth appearance at the Renaissance Club, a venue he clearly appreciates for its unique challenge. "I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK," he said. "The tournament always has a strong field and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week."

Last year, Scheffler finished in a tie for eighth, four strokes behind winner Gotterup, who edged out McIlroy and England's Marco Penge by two shots. With the world's best using this event as a springboard for links-season success, fans can expect nothing less than fireworks on the coast. Whether you're gearing up for the action on the course or stocking up on gear to play your own links rounds, this is the start of a thrilling month in golf.
