World number one Scottie Scheffler confirms he will warm up for his defence of the Open title by playing the Scottish Open next month.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is gearing up for his Open Championship title defense with a familiar and formidable warm-up: the Scottish Open. The American star has confirmed he'll tee it up at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick from July 9-12, marking his fifth appearance at the East Lothian links.

Scheffler, who finished joint eighth at last year's Scottish Open, sees the event as the perfect preparation for the Claret Jug defense the following week at Royal Birkdale. "I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK," he said. "The tournament always has a strong field and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week."

The 29-year-old will be in elite company. He'll join fellow double-Masters winner and world number two Rory McIlroy, alongside Scotland's own Robert MacIntyre—who claimed victory in 2024—and defending champion Chris Gotterup. Last year, Gotterup edged McIlroy and England's Marco Penge by two strokes, while Scheffler finished four shots further back.

For golf fans and apparel enthusiasts alike, this confirmation sets the stage for a thrilling stretch of links golf. Whether you're following Scheffler's quest for back-to-back majors or just soaking in the Scottish coastal scenery, the Scottish Open is shaping up to be a must-watch event—and the perfect prelude to The Open.
