Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has been named as an “official tournament supporter” of this summer’s World Cup. Organizer FIFA announced on Thursday an agreement with PIF companies Savvy Games Group and Qiddiya City covering North America and Asia.

In a major development that further cements Saudi Arabia's growing influence in global football, the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been named an "official tournament supporter" for this summer's World Cup. FIFA made the announcement on Thursday, revealing a comprehensive agreement with PIF subsidiaries Savvy Games Group and Qiddiya City that spans both North America and Asia.

This partnership builds on an existing collaboration for the 2025 Club World Cup and comes at a pivotal time, with Saudi Arabia already securing hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup. The timing is particularly noteworthy, as it arrives just two weeks after PIF confirmed it would end its support of LIV Golf at the close of the year—a decision that saw the sovereign wealth fund walk away from an estimated £4 billion ($5.4 billion) investment in the breakaway tour, citing a shift in its evolving investment strategy.

According to FIFA's official statement, the collaboration is designed to expand football's reach at every level—from grassroots development to elite competition—while enhancing fan engagement and creating fresh opportunities for participation. The statement emphasized that throughout the tournament, PIF and its companies will deliver "unforgettable experiences and drive innovative fan engagement initiatives to connect with the football community on the world's biggest stage."

The Savvy Games Group, described by FIFA as "Saudi Arabia's national and global champion for games and esports," and Qiddiya City, positioned as the country's "future capital of entertainment, sport and culture," will play key roles in bringing these initiatives to life. For football fans and sports enthusiasts alike, this partnership signals the start of a new era in how major tournaments integrate commercial partnerships with fan experiences—a trend that's reshaping the landscape of sports apparel and merchandise as well.
