Saranac's track and field team put on a dominant display Monday, cruising to a decisive victory over the Cougars in a meet that showcased the Spartans' impressive depth. With 12 athletes winning multiple events, it was a day of standout performances across the board.
Leading the charge for the boys were Matt Canning, Sean Dormann, and Noah Thayer, who each secured wins in both the 4x400 relay and their individual events. Canning took the 400, Dormann dominated the 3,200, and Thayer powered through the 800. In the field events, Carson Duffield proved unstoppable in the throws, sweeping the discus and shot put.
The girls' team was equally impressive, with the 4x400 relay squad all earning multiple victories. Nora Mesec was a standout, adding wins in the 800 and the 4x800 relay. Brooke Hanson joined her for a second win in the 4x800, while Sienna Boulds took the 400 and Laura Denail won the 1,500. Molly Thayer rounded out the 4x800 team and also claimed the 3,000.
In the sprints, Eve Liberty and Emma Ranger anchored the 4x100 relay, with Liberty adding a win in the 100 and Ranger taking the 200. The Spartans' relay times were solid: the boys' 4x800 finished in 9:24.1, the 4x400 in 3:49.4, and the girls' 4x800 in 10:41.9, while the 4x100 clocked 52.2 and the girls' 4x400 finished in 4:29.8.
Meanwhile, in Saranac Lake, Beekmantown handled business against the host team, with the Eagles soaring to victory. Henry Kapp was the star for the boys, winning three events: the 100, the 200, and anchoring the 4x100 relay. Derrick LaPlante joined Kapp on the relay and also took the triple jump. Nolan Laidman tripled as well, winning the 1,500, the 3,000, and contributing to the 4x800 relay, which finished in 9:32.
From the track to the field, it was a day of standout performances that highlight the strength of these teams as the season heats up.
