In a remarkable achievement that highlights the growing prominence of girls wrestling in New Mexico, Sandia High School senior Jaden Meadows has officially signed with Adams State University in Colorado. Meadows boasts one of the most impressive resumes since the sport became official in the state, cementing her legacy as a four-time state champion for the Matadors.
Her senior season was nothing short of dominant, as she finished undefeated at 36-0 and captured the 170-pound title in February. Remarkably, Meadows went undefeated in three of her four high school seasons, suffering only a single loss during her junior year. This level of consistency and excellence makes her a standout addition to the Adams State wrestling program.
Meanwhile, Cleveland High School is preparing to celebrate its own signing day on Thursday, with several standout athletes committing to collegiate programs. Among them are two multiple-time state wrestling champions: five-time champion Roman Luttrell (Utah Valley) and two-time girls wrestling champion Eloise Woolsey (Colorado Mesa). Other signees include Karson Weddle (Midland University, basketball), Anneliese Prosch (Otero JC, soccer), Angeline Montoya (New Mexico State, soccer), Miya Branaugh (Casper College, volleyball), Heaven Guevara (Iowa Western, wrestling), and Erin Winters (Hartnell College, basketball).
In coaching news, St. Pius has made a change at the helm of its girls basketball program. After seven seasons, Brio Rode has been informed that the school is moving in a different direction. Rode led the Sartans to the Class 4A state championship game just two years ago, where they fell to Kirtland Central, and reached the semifinals the season prior. The team exited in the first round of this year's 4A playoffs. St. Pius is now actively seeking applicants for the position.
Elsewhere in the prep sports landscape, longtime Bosque School athletic director Jeaney Garcia has retired after six years in the role and approximately 30 years in athletic administration. The school is also searching for a new boys basketball coach. Additionally, Rio Grande is looking for a new girls basketball coach following the resignation of Joseph Lopez.
On the golf course, Santa Fe High's Dominick Howland made headlines by recording a hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course during Tuesday's District 2-5A championships. It's a moment every golfer dreams of and a highlight in an already exciting season for New Mexico prep sports.
