The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section softball playoffs kicked off with a bang Wednesday, as 20 teams from San Joaquin County took the field with dreams of a championship. By the end of the day, only eight squads remained standing in a thrilling first round that showcased the region's depth of talent.

St. Mary's set the tone early, delivering a statement 6-4 victory over Lincoln in a heated rivalry matchup at Arnaiz Stadium. The Rams' Ava Arucan was electric in the circle, while the offense came alive behind key hits from Olivia Harris, Brooklyn Medina, and Lailah Lyons. Lincoln fought hard, with Remi Cooks and Lailanee Jocson providing sparks at the plate, but St. Mary's clutch defense—including a key play from McKenzie Abriol at the plate—sealed the win.

Across the county, the action was just as intense. Defensive stands, timely hitting, and dominant pitching defined the day as the tournament field was cut in half. For the eight teams advancing, the road to a section title now gets even tougher. For the 12 that fell, it's a season to be proud of—and a foundation to build on for next year.

As the playoffs heat up, one thing is clear: San Joaquin County softball is in peak form. Whether you're a player, coach, or fan, now is the time to gear up and show your support. From cleats to caps, make sure you're ready for every pitch of the postseason run.
