For head coach Sam Saunders, the 2025/26 season with Brentford B wasn't just another campaign—it was a historic journey defined by records, resilience, and remarkable growth amid significant change.

Taking over from Neil MacFarlane (who joined Keith Andrews' first-team coaching staff during pre-season), Saunders was no stranger to the squad. Having served as assistant coach for the previous six seasons, his transition was seamless. And it paid off in spectacular fashion.

The young Bees stormed to the Under-21s Professional Development League (PDL) title, finishing three points clear of Sheffield United. The championship was fueled by the club's longest winning streak since rejoining the PDL—an unbeaten run of 10 straight games, including eight consecutive victories, seven of which came in league action.

For Saunders, the defining moment came in the season finale against Swansea City. Needing just a point to secure the title, his team showed the kind of mentality that separates champions from contenders.

"I was really proud of the boys to perform in the manner that they did," Saunders reflected. "Even though we knew a draw would be enough, we played for the win. We reacted really well to going 2-1 down. It was great to see how they got together and got the job done when things weren't going our way."

He added: "It's something they've deserved for their efforts throughout the whole season. Performance-wise, they've set a very high bar week in, week out—with the ball and without it. It was especially pleasing to get it done back at the Gtech in front of their friends and family, who have sacrificed so much throughout their careers."

This title marks a historic first for the club: consecutive PDL championships. Last season, Brentford B secured the trophy through the play-offs after finishing second in the South table. This year, they dominated from start to finish, topping the revamped 20-team league.

But the road wasn't without its hurdles. Squad changes brought a new-look group to the pitch across the season, testing the team's adaptability and depth. Yet through it all, Saunders' side proved that development and winning can go hand in hand—a lesson that resonates far beyond the pitch.
