Sal Stewart announced his arrival in a big way Wednesday night, launching not one, but two three-run homers to power the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The 22-year-old phenom racked up a career-high six RBIs in a breakout performance that has the baseball world buzzing.
Stewart's power display was part of a full-team offensive showcase at Great American Ball Park. Veteran Eugenio Suarez and the electrifying Elly De La Cruz also went deep, providing more than enough support for rookie starter Rhett Lowder, who delivered a solid 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.
The night, however, belonged to Stewart. With his two monumental blasts, he now has 12 career home runs—the most by any Reds hitter in their first 36 games since Aristides Aquino's memorable 15 back in 2018-19. Adding to the historic night, Stewart became the second-youngest Reds player ever to drive in six runs in a single game, trailing only his teammate Elly De La Cruz, who achieved the feat at age 21.
For the Giants, it was a tough night on the mound. Former Red Tyler Mahle struggled with his command, surrendering all eight runs, including four home runs, over just four innings of work.
Stewart set the tone early, clearing the bases with a three-run shot to right-center in the first inning. Suarez followed just three pitches later with a solo homer, his 192nd as a Red, moving him past Brandon Phillips into 12th place on the franchise's all-time list. The Reds never looked back, showcasing the kind of explosive offense that makes them one of the most exciting young teams to watch this season.
