The former third-round pick will get a chance to show what he’s got at the start of New Orleans’ offseason program.

The New Orleans Saints are set to welcome a familiar face to their rookie minicamp, as veteran kicker Younghoe Koo gets a shot to prove he still has what it takes. The 31-year-old, who earned Pro Bowl honors back in 2020, will try out for the team as they kick off their offseason program.

Koo's journey has been anything but ordinary. After going undrafted in 2017, he landed with the Los Angeles Chargers for a single season before making a bold move to their arch-rivals, the Atlanta Falcons. There, he spent six and a half seasons building a reputation as a reliable leg, before finishing the 2025 campaign with the New York Giants. Now, he's looking to reignite his career in the Big Easy.

Last season was a mixed bag for Koo. He connected on 13 of 14 extra points (92.9%) across stints with Atlanta and New York, but struggled on field goals, hitting just six of nine attempts (66.7%). His lone make from 40-49 yards and two from beyond 50 showed flashes of his old form, yet Pro Football Focus graded his field goal work at a low 46.4. On kickoffs, he averaged opponent starting field position at the 29.4-yard line, earning a 27.8 grade in that department.

Over his career, Koo's numbers tell a stronger story. He's made 186 of 194 extra points (95.9%) and 185 of 217 field goals (85.3%), including 15 from 40-49 yards and 13 from 50-plus. That experience could be invaluable as the Saints look to solidify their kicking game.

With third-year kicker Charlie Smyth yet to lock down the starting role, Koo's arrival adds a layer of healthy competition. It's a chance for the veteran to bounce back from a rough patch and potentially earn the job for the season opener—a storyline that could resonate with fans eager to see reliable special teams play in New Orleans.
