The New Orleans Saints may be preparing for life without Alvin Kamara, but the star running back has other plans—and he's taking the rumors in stride.

After a season that sparked whispers of a possible retirement, the Saints made a bold move in free agency by signing former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne to a lucrative deal worth $13 million per year. For many, that signaled the team was looking ahead to a future beyond Kamara.

But Kamara isn't sweating it. In fact, he's embracing the competition.

Speaking on teammate Terron Armstead's podcast, Kamara made it clear there's no bad blood. "I think a lot of people be thinking there's a beef or something when moves like this happen," he said. "It's like, shoot, I couldn't be happier. One, my boy got paid, and two, ain't nothing but some help in the backfield. That's the name of the game. One person can't do it by themselves. I'm cool with it. Whichever direction that we can take it, I'm with it."

Kamara added he hasn't had much chance to talk to Etienne yet, but he's "excited that he's got a fleur-de-lis on his helmet, and he got paid."

The Saints' backfield is suddenly crowded, and the numbers game could get tricky. Kamara is set to carry a $10.45 million cap hit in 2026, while Etienne's new deal adds another layer of financial pressure. Some analysts see Kamara's upbeat comments as a strategic move—a signal that he's willing to restructure his contract to stay in New Orleans.

The Saints could make a roster decision after June 1, when the dead money penalty for cutting Kamara becomes less daunting. For now, though, Kamara is focused on the possibility of a two-headed rushing attack. Whether that vision becomes reality remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Alvin Kamara isn't ready to hand over the keys just yet.
