The St. Paul Saints are proving that home really is where the hits are. After a dominant road trip that saw them erupt for 16 runs just eight games ago, the team wasted no time picking up right where they left off at CHS Field. In Tuesday's series opener against Columbus, the Saints stormed out of the gate with an eight-run first inning, cruising to a 10-5 victory and extending their winning streak to four games.
St. Paul's offense has been a force to be reckoned with all season, and Tuesday was no exception. The Saints now lead the International League with 70 home runs in just 39 games, thanks in part to a towering blast from Alex Jackson. Kyler Fedko led the charge with three hits, while Jackson, Orlando Arcia, Hendry Mendez, and Ben Ross each added two as the team racked up 13 hits overall.
The Saints have now won eight of their last nine games, with five of those victories featuring double-digit run totals. It's a hot streak that has the team clicking on all cylinders, and the pitching staff is reaping the rewards. Starter John Klein set the tone with three innings of one-run ball, and Marco Raya (2-3) followed with two scoreless frames to pick up the win.
With momentum on their side and the bats showing no signs of cooling off, St. Paul is making a statement early in this six-game homestand. If the first inning was any indication, fans at CHS Field are in for a thrilling series.
