The New Orleans Saints are leaving no stone unturned as they search for quarterback depth, inviting a pair of intriguing veteran free agents to this weekend's rookie minicamp. According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Kyle Trask and Easton Stick will be among the signal-callers trying out, joining undrafted rookies Kaleb Blaha (Wisconsin-River Falls) and Braylon Braxton (Southern Mississippi) in the competition for the fourth spot on the depth chart.

Currently, the Saints have just three quarterbacks under contract: Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Zach Wilson. Last year's reserve, Hunter Dekkers, is recovering from a shoulder injury while playing for the UFL's Houston Gamblers, leaving room for fresh talent to step up.

Kyle Trask, 28, brings a fascinating pedigree to the tryout. A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he spent two seasons learning from Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay before the Buccaneers moved on from him as their QB2. He later had a brief stint with the Atlanta Falcons last year. Despite never starting an NFL game, Trask was highly regarded by the Saints coming out of the University of Florida, and this two-day practice session offers him a chance to prove he's ready for a bigger role.

Easton Stick, 30, is a name that should sound familiar to Saints fans—and especially to head coach Kellen Moore. Stick played under Moore when he was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. While the Chargers didn't win any of his four starts, Stick impressed with his poise under pressure. He completed 65.3% of his passes, averaged 237.5 passing yards per game, and threw three touchdowns against just one interception. He also showed mobility, rushing for 36 yards per game and adding a score on the ground. However, ball security was a concern, as he fumbled five times and took a dozen sacks. Still, his familiarity with Moore's playbook and system makes him a natural fit. The Saints even "kicked the tires" on Stick last summer after waiving Jake Haener.

With training camp just around the corner, teams typically carry four quarterbacks to manage the workload and evaluate talent. Expect one of these veterans to earn an offer once the final whistle blows in Metairie. While Dekkers will eventually return from his UFL stint, don't be surprised if Moore continues to bring in "his guys" to solidify the quarterback room. For now, all eyes are on these tryouts as the Saints build their depth chart for the season ahead.
