Home runs by Alex Jackson and Gabriel Gonzalez could not save the St. Paul Saints from a 4-3 loss at Indianapolis on Friday evening.
The host Indians took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held it until the fifth when Jackson launched his bomb to right center field to knot the score.
In the sixth, the Saints took a 3-1 lead on Gonzalez’s round tripper, followed by an RBI single by Kyler Fedko that plated Emmanuel Rodriguez.
However, the advantage was short lived as Indianapolis knotted the score in the bottom of the frame and then added the decisive tally one inning later.
Gonzalez and Orlando Arcia had two hits apiece, combining for two-thirds of St. Paul’s hit total in the game. Matt Bowman, who came on in relief in the sixth, took the loss after he gave up one earned run to see his ERA “balloon” to 1.88.
The two teams take the field again for a 3:05 p.m. start on Saturday.
