Buffalo has to consider all its options.

The Buffalo Sabres are facing a critical juncture, and they may need to look to an unlikely source to turn the tide. With the Montreal Canadiens surging and seemingly unstoppable, the Sabres are running out of options—but one name is emerging as a potential game-changer: Konsta Helenius.

At just 19 years old, Helenius isn't your typical playoff savior. But after the AHL Rochester Americans' season wrapped up, he was called up to the Sabres' roster. So far, he's been limited to practice sessions with a group of fellow AHL call-ups. However, if Buffalo decides to shake things up, Helenius is eligible to hit the ice in live action.

Local TV reporter Thad Brown recently weighed in on the possibility, noting his skepticism about relying on a teenager as a savior. But Brown also pointed out a key shift: when Isak Rosen was traded, Helenius stepped up and became the star in Rochester. He delivered time and again, scoring big goals—often on his own—and proving he could handle the pressure. "If there's a 19-year-old who's ready," Brown hinted, Helenius might just be that guy.

While Helenius lacks extensive NHL experience, his skill set is undeniable. This season, he played 63 games with the Amerks in the AHL, racking up 21 goals and 41 assists for a total of 62 points. In his limited nine-game stint with the Sabres, he managed four points—one goal and three assists—showing he can produce at the highest level.

The Sabres are in a tough spot, but sometimes the boldest moves pay off. Helenius may not be the veteran presence fans hoped for, but his AHL dominance and flashes of NHL talent make him a compelling option. As Buffalo scrambles to find an edge, don't be surprised if this young Finn gets his shot to make a difference.
