Rutgers has bolstered its front court with a local transfer.
Will Sydnor, a 6-foot-8 forward who last played at Manhattan during the 2024-25 season, has committed to the Scarlet Knights. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Head coach Steve Pikiell’s program beat out Seton Hall and Rhode Island for Sydnor’s signature. He visited all three schools, with Rutgers getting the last visit on Sunday.
Sydnor did not play at Manhattan last winter due to what the Jaspers called an “NCAA eligibility matter unrelated to malfeasance.” He will be eligible to play during the 2025-26 season, per MAAC reporter Sam Federman.

In his lone season on the court with Manhattan (2024-25), when he was named the MAAC’s Freshman of the Year, he averaged 13.9 points on 45.1% shooting (34.8% on threes, 63.2% on free throws), 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 blocks, 0.7 steals and 1.8 turnovers in 29.5 minutes across 30 games (28 starts).
A Bronx native, Sydnor played high school basketball at the Patrick School in New Jersey and First Love Christian Academy in Pittsburgh, where he played alongside current Rutgers guard Tariq Francis.
Rutgers now has 11 scholarships allotted for the 2026-27 season, meaning there are four open slots remaining.
