Part 2 of Pikiell’s podcast: the incoming transfers.

Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell is back with another episode of his podcast, and this time he's breaking down the Scarlet Knights' newest arrivals. After securing a strong core of returning players—including Tariq Francis, Lino Mark, and Jamicheal Davis—Pikiell turned his attention to the incoming transfers who will shape the team's future.

First up is Darin Smith Jr., the former NEC Player of the Year from Central Connecticut State. Pikiell highlighted Smith's ability to light up the scoreboard against any level of competition, a skill that should translate well to the Big Ten stage.

Next, Pikiell praised Manhattan transfer Will Sydnor, calling him a hard worker with versatile size and a tenacious rebounding instinct. That last trait, Pikiell noted, was a major priority when scouring the transfer portal—and Sydnor delivers.

Christian Gurdak also earned high marks from the coach, particularly for his experience in the ACC. Facing powerhouses like Duke and Virginia has prepared him for the physicality of Big Ten play. Pikiell also applauded Gurdak's work ethic, rebounding drive, and passing touch.

Pikiell made a point to compliment the entire group's humility, saying it's a refreshing quality that will help them mesh with the returning roster.

Center Dorin Buca from Kansas State was mentioned briefly, though Pikiell didn't go into detail. International transfer Lewis Duarte wasn't discussed at all—he's still working through NCAA eligibility requirements before he can officially sign with the team.

With a mix of proven scorers, gritty rebounders, and battle-tested veterans, Rutgers is building a squad that looks ready to compete. Stay tuned for more updates as these new Scarlet Knights prepare to take the court.
