This Friday, April 24th, is the 11th annual Rutgers Giving Day, and this time around, the athletics department has something special up its sleeves as longtime Rutgers Athletics supporters Greg and Anna Brown have announced a $1 million matching challenge. This challenge states that every gift made in support of Rutgers Athletics on Friday will be matched dollar-for-dollar. This will effectively double all of the donations made to the department on Friday.

“This is a chance for all of us to come together and support our student-athletes as they pursue excellence in their sport and in the classroom. There are a lot of exciting things going on in Rutgers Athletics. We are proud to do our part and hope you will join us,” said Brown in a press release made by the university.

“We are deeply grateful to Greg and Anna Brown for their extraordinary generosity and leadership,” said Rutgers Athletic Director Keli Zinn in the press release. “This matching gift represents a powerful investment in the future of Rutgers Athletics and creates a unique opportunity for our entire community to make an even greater impact. I encourage Rutgers Nation to build on this momentum. Give to compete. Compete to win!”

Brown, who serves as Motorola Solutions Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has been an outspoken supporter of Rutgers and Rutgers Athletics since he graduated from Rutgers’ Livingston College in 1982. Brown’s support has been recognized all around campus, with the recruiting pavilion at SHI Stadium being named after him, along with the football locker room and the men’s basketball practice court, all of which bear his family’s name.

Rutgers Giving Day is not just an important day for the athletic department, but for the school as a whole. Events like this help to provide the entire school with the resources it needs to be a top-tier university, in the classrooms and on the athletic fields.
