Russell Wilson reveals update on Jets vs. TV network decision

Russell Wilson is still deciding what his future entails.

Russell Wilson is at a career crossroads, and the New York Jets are caught in the middle of his big decision. The veteran quarterback, who has suited up for the Seahawks, Broncos, Steelers, and most recently the Giants, is weighing two very different options: joining the Jets as a backup or stepping into the broadcast booth as a TV analyst.

According to Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post, Wilson recently confirmed that he's mulling over offers from both sides. "It was great," Wilson said of the TV opportunity. "They offered me, and I'm trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have an opportunity to do TV analysis, so we'll see what happens."

For the Jets, this isn't just a casual interest—it's a pressing need. After the 2026 NFL Draft, New York finds itself with Geno Smith as the starting quarterback and rookie Cade Klubnik as the developmental project. Head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey are looking for a reliable veteran to back up Smith, someone who can step in if the starter goes down without rushing Klubnik into action before he's ready.

Wilson is the clear top option among available free-agent quarterbacks. The rest of the market is thin, filled with practice-squad-level talent or players considering retirement. Cooper Rush is the only other decent backup candidate, but there's no guarantee he'll be available if Wilson passes on the Jets.

So now, the Jets find themselves in an unexpected competition—not with another team, but with TV networks. Wilson, still confident in his ability to play, is taking his time to decide what's next. For New York, the hope is that the allure of the gridiron wins out over the bright lights of the studio.
