Russell Wilson is at a career crossroads, weighing a contract offer from the New York Jets against a potential move to the TV studio. The veteran quarterback visited the Jets on April 28, with the team eyeing him as a backup to Geno Smith. But according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, there's also a spot waiting for him on CBS's "The NFL Today."
Speaking with the New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy at BTIG Charity Day on May 6, Wilson opened up about the tough decision ahead. "It was great," he said of his Jets visit. "They offered me, and I'm trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I have an opportunity to do TV so we'll see what happens."
The situation adds an intriguing twist to the Jets' quarterback room. Wilson and Smith were teammates in Seattle, where Wilson was the starter and Smith served as his backup. With the Jets, those roles would flip. But Wilson isn't fazed by the potential dynamic. "Geno is a great guy," he said. "We've been great friends, great teammates. I'm just focused on today."
Whether he continues his playing career or transitions to broadcasting, Wilson's love for the game remains unwavering. "I just love football," he said. "I love ball, being in it in every way, staying ready to play through and just every day I'm training and getting ready, but also too I think I have a lot of great opportunities. The good news is there's a lot I could have done. I think playing 14-plus years has been amazing for me and I'm just grateful I get to do what I love to do."
