The Detroit Lions decided to stay in state to get another edge rusher.
The Lions traded up six spots to No. 44 to select Michigan edge rusher Derrick Moore in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Lions traded picks 50 and 128 to the New York Jets in exchange.
The beginning of Round 2 started with a run of edge rushers going off the boards, so the Lions likely felt compelled to trade up to pick Moore.
The Lions are in search of an edge rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson. Detroit ranked near the bottom of the NFL in pass rush win rate and run stop win rate last season. Hutchinson has been the Lions’ only consistent edge rusher.
The Jets had three picks in the first round (David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr.). The trade down allows New York to recoup assets.
