‘Rule needs to change ASAP’: Ashwin slams DRS after late drama in PBKS vs MI clash

Ravichandran Ashwin has demanded an urgent rule change for DRS after a controversial final-ball lbw reversal in the IPL. Punjab Kings were denied a leg-bye when an on-field 'out' decision was overturned, with Ashwin arguing the incorrect call cost them a run and the rule needs immediate IPL adoption.

The DRS rulebook is under fire once again, and this time it's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin leading the charge. After a dramatic final-ball lbw reversal in the IPL clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala, Ashwin has demanded an urgent rule change—and he wants it implemented immediately, regardless of ICC timelines.

The controversy unfolded on the last ball of Punjab's innings when Jasprit Bumrah trapped Vishnu Vinod in front. The on-field umpire raised his finger, but Vinod reviewed instantly. Replays showed the ball was clearly missing the stumps, and the decision was overturned. However, because the umpire had initially signaled out, the ball was declared dead—meaning Punjab were denied the leg-bye they had already run.

Ashwin took to social media to voice his frustration. "This wrong decision has cost Punjab a run. This rule needs to change ASAP! Just like how the Impact Sub is an IPL rule, the DRS reversal should also be brought into the IPL even if the ICC delays it for some reason." The post has reignited debate about whether the IPL should adopt its own playing conditions for DRS, separate from international cricket's framework.

The incident capped a rollercoaster innings where Punjab recovered brilliantly to post 200 for 8. Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a fluent 57, sharing a brisk opening stand with Priyansh Arya. But Mumbai struck back through Shardul Thakur's four-wicket haul, triggering a middle-order collapse that threatened to derail the innings entirely.

Just when it seemed Punjab might fall short, Azmatullah Omarzai launched a stunning counterattack, smashing 38 off just 17 balls. Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett then added crucial runs at the death—though that final-ball decision would leave a bitter taste. For Ashwin and many fans, the message is clear: it's time for the IPL to take matters into its own hands.
