That was eminently forgettable

The Kansas City Royals are on fire, and the Cleveland Guardians are feeling the heat after a forgettable loss that left fans searching for answers. While David Fry provided a bright spot with a two-run homer and Travis Bazzana contributed a hit and a run, the rest of the lineup struggled to find any rhythm against Royals starter Michael Wacha. Angel Martinez added a double and a walk, and Fry chipped in another hit, but that was the extent of the offense—otherwise, it was a quiet day at the plate that left the Guardians flat.

Tanner Bibee turned in a solid performance overall, but one disastrous inning turned the game on its head. In the fourth, Bobby Witt Jr. led off with a home run, followed by a double from Vinnie Pasquantino and a single from Salvador Perez—a play that may be scored an error on Bazzana after the ball slipped through his legs. Singles from Carter Jensen and a walk to Lane Thomas loaded the bases, and though Bibee nearly escaped with the game tied, an 86 mph grounder snuck through the infield, plating four runs and sealing Cleveland's fate.

The bullpen didn't fare much better. After a bold claim that Matt Festa and Connor Brogdon are stronger arms than Peyton Pallette, Pallette looked electric on the mound. But Festa surrendered a towering home run to Jac Caglianone, and Brogdon allowed a run following a Gabriel Rocchio error, adding to the frustration.

With the Royals winning eight of their last ten and the Guardians slipping back to .500, Cleveland needs to find a way to take the next two games—avoiding a Thursday showdown against Seth Lugo, who is even tougher on the Guardians than Wacha. Tomorrow offers a fresh start, but the pressure is on to turn this around before the series slips away.
