So much for Muhammad Mokaev returning to fight on a big stage since his UFC departure.

Just when we thought Muhammad Mokaev was set for a high-profile return, visa troubles have put the brakes on his comeback. The undefeated flyweight, who parted ways with the UFC in 2024, has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout against former ONE Championship titleholder Adriano Moraes.

Stepping into the spotlight on short notice is Phumi Nkuta, an undefeated prospect with an 11-0 record who's built his reputation in LFA and Bellator. Seven of his wins have come by decision, showcasing a patient, technical approach that could pose problems for Moraes.

The fight was set to be a highlight of the highly anticipated Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card, scheduled for May 16 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, and streaming live on Netflix. Now, Moraes vs. Nkuta will be contested at a catchweight of 130 pounds, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the matchup.

Moraes, who has dropped three of his last four fights, is looking to bounce back after a TKO loss to Yuya Wakamatsu at ONE 172 in March 2025. Meanwhile, Mokaev—who went 3-0 after his UFC release and captured the inaugural Brave CF flyweight championship last November—will have to wait for another chance to shine on a big stage.

For fight fans, this shake-up is a reminder that in combat sports, anything can happen. But with Nkuta's unblemished record and Moraes's championship pedigree, this catchweight clash still promises fireworks.
