In a stunning display of spin bowling, Joe Root and Dom Bess turned the County Championship clash at Taunton into a Yorkshire masterclass, each claiming four wickets to secure a memorable 75-run victory over Somerset.

The day began with Yorkshire adding just six runs to their overnight score, as Jhye Richardson's gritty 122-ball half-century came to an end when he was caught behind off Craig Overton. The visitors were bowled out for 371, setting Somerset a target of 260 on a pitch that had offered little assistance throughout the match.

What followed was a collapse that left the home side reeling. Somerset's top order crumbled to 21-3, with George Hill making early inroads by dismissing Archie Vaughan and Tom Lammonby in quick succession. The pressure intensified when Dom Bess, the former Somerset spinner, struck a psychological blow by having James Rew caught behind.

At lunch, Somerset had reached 57-3, with Tom Abell and Josh Thomas showing resistance. But the afternoon session brought more twists. Abell fell for 41, edging Bess to slip, leaving Somerset at 85-4. Youngster Thomas Rew walked to the crease, facing the prospect of a pair on his Championship debut.

Joe Root then took center stage, his off-spin proving too much for the middle order. The former England captain finished with 4-49, while Bess matched him with 4-60. Josh Thomas fought valiantly for 57, but the target proved too steep as Somerset were bowled out for 184 shortly after tea.

The victory was all the more remarkable given Yorkshire had conceded a first-innings lead of 112. The 19 points earned lift them up the Division One table, while Somerset's hopes of claiming top spot were dashed as they had to settle for just four points from the encounter.
