The first two and a half months of the season have been a tough ride for the New York Mets. But on Thursday's Star Wars Day at Citi Field, the Force was definitely with them—and with rookie outfielder A.J. Ewing.

Ewing crushed his first big league home run, a solo shot off Tigers starter Keider Montero in the first inning, sparking a comeback that led to a 9-4 victory and the Mets' first series sweep of the season. It was a moment that had the entire clubhouse buzzing with smiles and energy.

The game didn't start smoothly for New York. The Tigers jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first after Gage Workman's three-run homer. But the Mets answered quickly, scoring seven unanswered runs to turn the tide and secure their third straight win—just one shy of their longest win streak this year.

Brett Baty tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run homer in the third inning, and Juan Soto put the Mets ahead with an RBI single in the fifth. Mark Vientos followed with his fifth home run of the season to extend the lead to 6-3. The offensive fireworks continued with solo homers from Soto and Marcus Semien in the fifth and eighth innings, respectively.

After a brutal 12-game losing streak earlier this season, the Mets' bats have come alive. The decision to call up Ewing looks especially smart—he's now 3-for-9 with four walks and four runs since joining the big club, bringing a spark that's been contagious.

On the mound, starter Nolan McLean delivered a strong performance, allowing just three runs over seven innings while striking out seven. Tobias Myers and Craig Kimbrel closed things out, with Myers surrendering only a solo homer to Dillon Dingler in the eighth.

For the Tigers, Montero struggled, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. The Mets improved to seven games below .500, but with this momentum, they're heading into the Subway Series this weekend ready to keep their torrid offense rolling.
