Ronda Rousey's goals are beyond just fighting again.

Ronda Rousey is back, and she's not just looking to win—she's aiming to make history.

After a long hiatus, the former UFC bantamweight champion (12-2) is set to face Gina Carano (7-1) in the main event of MVP MMA 1, streaming live on Netflix this Saturday at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. For Rousey, who hasn't stepped into the cage since 2016, this fight is about more than a comeback. It's about breaking records.

Her target? To surpass the most-watched MMA fight of all time. That honor currently belongs to the first bout between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, which drew an estimated 8.8 million viewers on FOX back in 2011. Rousey wants to top that—and then some.

"In numbers, I just want to be able to beat the numbers for the most viewed MMA fight of all time—about 9 million," Rousey told reporters during Wednesday's open workout. "So beating 9 million will be a success for me. Blowing it out of the park will make me very happy."

But her ambition goes beyond personal glory. Rousey sees this as an audition to convince MVP and Netflix that MMA is worth a long-term investment. "I just want to be able to convince them that there's something here, and it's worth the investment, and this is going to be huge—that they should stay in the MMA game and not just dabble in it this one time."

This isn't the first time Rousey has been a trailblazer. She was the driving force behind Dana White allowing women to compete in the UFC, and she went on to become a six-time defending bantamweight champion and one of the biggest pay-per-view draws in the sport's history.

"I have experience in this field," she said. "I feel like I'm the best person for the job. This is my audition to be like, 'Hey, you should have me around to do this a whole lot more often.' So hopefully this is a huge success and this isn't the last time I'll be able to try and push the envelope."

With both fighters making long-awaited returns—Carano hasn't fought since 2009—all eyes will be on Netflix this Saturday to see if Rousey can deliver the record-breaking performance she's aiming for.
