Ronda Rousey is stepping back into the cage this weekend, and she's bringing equal parts peace and fury with her.

The former UFC women's bantamweight champion returns to combat sports on Saturday, May 16, 2026, for MVP MMA 1's main event at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Her opponent? Gina Carano, a fellow pioneer of women's MMA and someone Rousey has long admired from afar. It's a fight that feels like a full-circle moment for the sport—and for Rousey herself.

Competing for the first time since 2016, Rousey is understandably under the microscope. Questions about her mindset, physical readiness, and motivation are everywhere. But if you think that pressure is getting to her, think again.

"It's been incredible—she was my hero getting into the sport, and this is what brought us together," Rousey told reporters after her open workout. "We're trying our best not to be friends and to not communicate, but I desperately want to hit her up before every press conference to find out what color she's wearing."

Still, don't mistake her calm demeanor for a lack of fire. Once the cage door closes, Rousey is planning to unleash everything she's got.

"I'm going to give her every single thing I have because I have so much respect for her," she explained. "I know we have forgiveness in our hearts for each other. I will be the first one to pop her elbow back in, drive her to the hospital, and get her flowers—and I hope she would be the first person to help me off the mat if I ended up going down with something."

This fight marks the official end of Rousey's MMA career. She's already confirmed that after Saturday, she's stepping away for good to focus on expanding her family with husband Travis Browne. With that in mind, expect the former champion to leave absolutely nothing in the tank.

After all, very few fighters get the chance to script their own ending—and even fewer walk away with a win. For Rousey, this weekend is about honoring the past, embracing the present, and closing the chapter on her terms.

So while there's clearly mutual respect between these two legends, make no mistake: Rousey is coming to fight. And she's planning to send Carano to the hospital—with a side of flowers.
